National Seminar on “Global Environmental Issues and Climate Change”


This two-day seminar, sponsored by UGC and organized by the Science Association of MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, would be held at the college campus on November 9-10, 2010. The seminar would be inaugurated by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar, a renowned spiritual leader & founder of “Art of Living Foundation”.


Aims & Objectives:
  • Outlining the global environmental issues responsible for climate change to sustain development of India.
  • Developing practical understanding of the relationship between environmental issues and development by analyzing the working of natural system and economic system and how to select appropriate applications of technologies.
  • Generating better awareness among various NGOs & social service centers as they have been at the fore front in implementing these projects.
  • Imbibing awareness in the student community for project coordination and knowledge sharing between NGOs and students.
  • Discussing the role of industry and corporate social responsibility towards environment and exploring new areas of CSR.
  • Understanding the importance of green consumerism.

  • Climate Variability and Extreme Events – Impact on Resources

  • Nature conservation
  • Hindu / Vedic Philosophy is Environment Friendly

  • Role of NGOs, Participation of Under-Privileged Sections of Society in Environment Management
  • Role of Print and Electronic Media in Environment Management
  • Role of Women and Teachers in Environment Management
The seminar would feature selected paper presentations / posters on the abpve-mentioned sub-topics.

About the Organizers:

Mehr Chand Mahajan Dayanand Anglo Vedic College for Women, Chandigarh, popularly known as MCM, was established in 1968 by the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, to commemorate the meritorious services rendered by Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, former Chief Justice of India, a distinguished legal luminary, great patriot, administrator par excellence, committed educationist, social reformer and humanist.

Since its inception in 1968 with merely 250 students and functioning from borrowed rooms, MCM DAV College has come a long way. Today, with more than 3000 students, it is spread over a campus of 16 acres right in the heart of Chandigarh and boasts of imposing building, sprawling lawns and lavish playgrounds. Over the last 38 years, it has augmented its infrastructure in accordance with the increasing demands of new departments and courses that were introduced from time to time.
