New Delhi – The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organizing “India Sustainability Conclave 2012” on 6-7 March at New Delhi. The theme, ‘Balancing Business Goals in a Sustainability Paradigm’ aims to capture the inter linkages between economic, environmental and social goals.
ThinktoSustain.com – a leading sustainability news and analysis website is the media partner for the event. The portal, an IIM-Lucknow alumni initiative, has been at the forefront in addressing emerging sustainability issues.
“With growing awareness on the impact of industrial activity on environment, society and economy, businesses need to be more sensitive towards their stakeholders. Incorporating sustainability principles in business strategies can offer viable solutions, but the path to sustainable development is embedded with intrinsic challenges,” says G. V. P. Rajan, Vice President, Sustainable Strategies at ThinktoSustain.com.
Managing a diverse portfolio of stakeholders with conflicting aspirations or bringing new dimensions in corporate decision making would require organizations to think out-of-the-box. Moving out of the traditional constraints would be a daunting task but organizations that are friendlier to the environment and the society are more likely to maintain their ‘license to operate’.
The India Sustainability Conclave would be discussing these and many more issues at great length with eminent industry professionals, subject experts and researchers.
According to Rita Roy Choudhury, Director & Head, Environment, Climate Change & Renewable Energy at FICCI, “FICCI realized that in the wake of an emerging paradigm shift towards sustainability, engaging corporates to broaden the discussion around sustainability is absolutely vital. Consequently FICCI embarked on a journey involving corporates in various conversations on sustainability by way of interviews and workshops. The India Sustainability Conclave will provide a platform to facilitate an ongoing dialogue for businesses to debate the issues that corporates need to grapple with, find solutions, address challenges and create opportunities for developing a sustainability paradigm.”
