Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010

Introduction

The Indian delegation participating in the Ministerial Session of WIREC 2008 announced that Government of India will host the 4th International Renewable Energy Conference in 2010. Pursuant the above announcement, necessary steps have been initiated by the Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to host the Conference titled: Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 from 27th to 29th October 2010 at New Delhi / NCR.

About DIREC 2010

DIREC 2010 is a part of initiative taken at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg acknowledging the significance of renewable energies for sustainable development – especially for combating poverty and for environmental and climate protection. Delhi Conference, an international platform for government, private sector, and non-governmental leaders, is the 4th Global Ministerial – level conference on renewable energy following successful editions at Washington in 2008 (WIREC), Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004.

The Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 comprises multiple events:

  • a global ministerial-level meeting,
  • a trade show and a business conference; and
  • Official side events.

DIREC 2010 will bring together the Industry, the Financiers, the Policy-makers, the Scientists, the Decision-makers, the Buyers and Sellers in a bid to develop and drive new initiatives, provide insights, showcase sustainable product development and green business opportunities, and facilitate interaction between entities from all over the world and India, in order to elicit practical applications that are most relevant globally at this juncture.

Objectives

The International forum will endeavor to address the goal of advancing renewable energy for sustainable development. The Cabinet – level government functionaries from a number of countries will join the civil society partners and private sector leaders to discuss the opportunities & challenges of rapid deployment of renewables globally. DIREC 2010 will also provide policy makers from all levels of government a robust menu of policy options and practical measures that have been proven successful in accelerating the diffusion of renewable energy technologies.

The participants will address, and showcase, key drivers of renewable energy production and applications including:

  • Upscaling global effort for joint R & D and technology transfer models
  • Innovative financing and funding for mainstreaming Renewables
  • Addressing trade and investment barriers for Upscaling Renewables
  • Sustainable renewable energy business models for grid integrated/decentralized applications and
  • Policy initiatives that can facilitate rapid scale-up of adoption of Renewables
  • DIREC 2010 aims to provide a platform for technology displays, new applications and innovations; to display global research & development with respect to climate change.
