Lausanne – International sports federations are now able to report on their event’s sustainability measures in a simple way using a new Event Sustainability Online Reporting Tool launched by SportAccord.
The Reporting Tool will assist SportAccord Members in the monitoring, measurement and communication of sustainability measures implemented in relation to their events.
With hundreds of events organized each year by the 105 international sports federations and organizations who are SportAccord members, responsibly managing the economic, social and environment impact and opportunities of an event is now considered an indispensable element of running a successful event.
Identifying those events that are being run in a truly innovative and responsible way can only begin with consistent reporting and subsequent benchmarking. Federations are encouraged to use the Online Tool to report on their events so that best practice can be identified and innovation encouraged.
The Event Sustainability Online Tool provides guidance, shares resources, tools and ideas with the aim of increasing the positive impact of sports events on the economy and society and minimizing the negative environmental impact of an event.
This 3 stage user-friendly tool provides examples to facilitate the filling out of the forms and provides users with a Sustainability Summary Report that can then be shared with host cities, sponsors and the public. The Report, complete with a direct carbon emissions calculation, can be used as evidence of steps taken towards compliance with industry standards including the British Standard (BS) 8901 event sustainability management system.
