About the Author:

Dr. Patrick Moore, an ecology Ph.D., has been a leader in the international environmental field for more than 40 years. He is a co-founder of Greenpeace and served for 9 years as President of Greenpeace Canada and 7 years as a Director of Greenpeace International

In recent years, Dr. Moore has been focused on the promotion of sustainability and consensus building among competing concerns. He serves as Chair and Chief Scientist of Greenspirit Strategies Ltd., a consultancy focusing on environmental policy and communications in forestry, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, mining, biodiversity, chemicals, energy and climate change.

In 2000, Dr. Moore published ‘Green Spirit – Trees are the Answer’, a photo-book that provides a new insight into how forests work and how they can play a powerful role in solving many of our current environmental problems.

Introduction:

The new, revised 10th anniversary edition of ‘Trees are the Answer’ delivers an even more powerful message than before about the value of forests, a message that runs counter to much of the environmental movement’s current thinking.

With straight-forward logic based on facts and science, Dr. Patrick Moore gives us new eyes with which to see the land, exploring the beauty, biodiversity and spirit of forests growing back after logging.

Through clear words and pictures, this life-long environmentalist demonstrates that we should be planting more trees and using more renewable wood – not less – in order to reduce our reliance on non-renewable fuels and materials.

Dr. Moore’s message is based on personal experience – as a member of a family that has been logging on northern Vancouver Island for four generations, as an activist pioneer, and as a popular international lecturer on sustainability.

This renowned environmental visionary poses many critical questions in this new, revised 10th anniversary edition, including how we tackle the following important social and environmental problems of the 21st Century:
  • Carbon capture and storage?
  • Green building?
  • Wildlife habitat?
  • Renewable biofuel energy?
  • Clean air and water?
  • Printing, packaging and sanitation?
  • Fertile soils?
  • A beautiful green earth?
This is a must-read book for anyone interested in understanding why Trees are the Answer to so many of today’s critical environmental challenges.
