Professor Sushil Kumar is currently a Faculty with Centre for Food and Agri-business Management (CFAM) in the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow. He is also a member in the Human Resource Management group. Prior to joining IIM Lucknow in April 2005, he was SSHRC post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, Toronto (Canada) from where he completed his Doctoral studies too. Earlier, he was a Member of the prestigious All India Service – Indian Forest Services (IFS) – belonging to the 1988 batch. He has worked as Dean, School of Management, and Dean, Academics, at Gautam Buddha University, Greater NOIDA, during 2009 for one year.
At IIM Lucknow, Professor Kumar teaches:

- New Venture Planning;
- Business, Society and Governance;
- Contemporary Strategic Issues in Agri-business and Food Industry;
- Rural Research Methods; and
- Structural Equation Modeling.
- His core focus areas are – Business Sustainability; Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Ethics; Organizational Inertia; Change Management; and Organizational Culture.
With a strong educational background and long professional experience in policy formulation, implementation, and management, Professor Kumar possesses an expert level knowledge of various technical, managerial, socio-economic, institutional, and cultural issues in these fields. As a consultant, Professor Sushil Kumar has recently finished an assignment with ‘gtz’ – German Technical Cooperation – for its Regional Economic Development project in the state of Uttarakhand (India). In the past, Professor Kumar has worked in number of other consulting assignments in the field of corporate planning, rural development, health management, and monitoring and evaluation.
Professor Kumar has always been highly proactive in his approach to teaching and research. In March 2008, he organized a conference on ‘Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges for the Indian Corporates’. He has also been instrumental in organizing an International Conference on Food and Agri-business at IIM Lucknow during August 2007. Earlier, he was the Convention Director for Annual Convention of the Association of Indian Management Schools in August 2006.
IIM Lucknow launched the first ever course on Corporate Environmental Strategies and Carbon Markets under his Course Directorship. This put the focus on environment, climate change, clean development mechanism and carbon markets in 2006, a time when not many were talking about these issues in the country.
Professor Kumar has authored several case studies/ papers and has conducted several well-received Management Development Programmes on General Management; Leadership; Corporate Social Responsibility; Good Governance; Change Management and Effective Organizational Culture; Corporate Environmental Management and Carbon Markets, etc.
