Job Description

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Center for Sustainable Transport, is seeking an Associate – Research & Practice – Social Entrepreneurship for its India Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Creatively connecting “privately owned public transport”, “social enterprise”, “technology”, “urban poor”, ”access to livelihoods” and “new mobility” to transform the urban transport landscape in India
  • Designing and organizing summits to bring together potential entrepreneurs, investors, and technology providers in the area of non-motorized transport in India
  • Organizing collaborative design sessions (‘charette’) in target cities where government officials, entrepreneurs and civil society work together to better understand each other’s roles in system design and implementation
  • Engaging media outlets through interviews and events
  • Conducting online outreach through blogs and social networks
  • Producing high quality publications for distribution
  • Independently manage multiple such projects in the Intermediate Public Transport, Public Transport, Non-Motorized Transport domain
  • Interact with multiple partners and/or stakeholders
  • Participate actively in EMBARQ India’s ambitious and innovative growth strategy
  • Build and maintain strong network and relationships with key institutions, stakeholders and colleagues throughout India
  • Organize, facilitate and/or attend events that are relevant to EMBARQ’s India program and the EMBARQ Asia network on an as needed basis
Job Specifications
  • Degree in Planning, Engineering, Architecture or related fields
  • Post Graduate/Master’s Degree in Business (MBA), Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture or equivalent
  • 2-5 years experience of working with investors, funding catalyst (incubators) organizations or in a start-up with exposure to facilitate funding opportunities
  • Proven track record of managing staff and partners and other diverse stakeholders on complex projects
  • Be willing to work in start-up environments, and on projects that have ambiguity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and the Internet
  • Capability to learn and use software applications for budgeting, financing, and reporting that are used by EMBARQ and WRI
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Hindi and other Indian regional languages skills will be beneficial
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines
